Visit Humantay Lake on a full-day excursion from Cusco and explore one of the most striking natural settings in the Andes. The hike follows a mountain trail toward the lake, located beneath Humantay Mountain and surrounded by impressive peaks. Once there, you can admire its turquoise waters and take in the dramatic high-altitude scenery. A great option for travelers looking for an adventurous hike and spectacular mountain landscapes.
This unforgettable day will begin very early! We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco around 4:30 a.m. Pick-up is available from any hotel within the historic center. Then, prepare for a two-hour drive to the town of Mollepata.
Next, fuel up with a delicious breakfast made with fresh, local ingredients at a local restaurant.
Afterward, we will continue for another hour by van to Soraypampa, the trailhead, where we will prepare for an impressive hike.
There, your guide will give you some time to get ready, use the restrooms, and do some stretching. The trail starts gently and becomes steeper as we approach the lake.
After about two hours of hiking through breathtaking scenery, we will reach the shimmering turquoise waters of Humantay Lake, at an altitude of 4,200 meters, located just below the snow-capped mountain of the same name. Take your time to stroll, relax, and breathe in the fresh mountain air.
Once you’ve soaked up the tranquility of the lake, we’ll begin a two-hour descent to the trailhead (Soraypampa).
There, we’ll board the van and head to Mollepata for a delicious lunch at a local restaurant. Afterward, enjoy some time to admire the views of the town.
Finally, we’ll settle in for the two-hour drive back to Cusco. We’ll drop you off at your hotel around 6:00 p.m., bringing this adventure to a perfect close.
Throughout the day, we’ll provide trekking poles for the ascent.
We recommend bringing warm clothing, comfortable hiking shoes, water, sunscreen, a hat or cap, and a waterproof jacket, as weather conditions can change quickly.
Previous trekking experience is not required. However, a reasonable level of fitness and proper acclimatization are recommended.
Humantay Lake is located at approximately 4,200 meters (13,780 feet) above sea level, so it is important to be prepared for high-altitude hiking.
The uphill hike usually takes around 1 to 2 hours, depending on each traveler’s pace. After visiting the lake, you will return along the same trail.
The hike is considered moderate to challenging due to the altitude and uphill sections. Proper acclimatization in Cusco is recommended.
