HIGHLIGHTS
Upon arrival at Cusco International Airport, our staff will be waiting for you to assist you and transfer you to your hotel. Later, you will enjoy a guided tour of this charming city, which was once the capital of the Inca Empire.
The tour begins with a visit to the Cathedral, the most impressive monument in the Plaza de Armas. You will then visit the Santo Domingo Convent, which was built on top of the Inca temple of Coricancha, one of the most important temples dedicated to the worship of the sun. Ancient chronicles state that its walls were covered in gold and decorated with golden representations of nature.
Next, head toward the hills surrounding Cusco, where the impressive fortress of Sacsayhuamán is located. Its enormous stone walls offer spectacular panoramic views of the city. The tour continues to Qenqo, an archaeological complex with religious purposes, where it is believed that the Incas performed rituals related to agriculture.
Your tour then continues to Puca Pucará, which means “Red Fortress” in Quechua. This architectural complex is believed to have served a military purpose and features multiple rooms, plazas, baths, aqueducts, and towers. It is thought to have been used by the Inca entourage while the leader rested at Tambomachay.
After completing the tour, you will return to the historic center of Cusco, bringing this day’s activities to an end.
• Overnight in Cusco at the selected hotel.
